Ten Ways To Become

More Sustainable

Using reusable products, reducing single-use plastics and reducing the use of resources will ultimately help our planet avoid the global warming crisis. Even a small change such as switching from single-use to reusable will help the issue get a little better. If we can get everyone to make at least one of these simple changes, our planet and the human race will have a better chance of surviving.

Here are 10 ways to become more sustainable:

1. Buy a reusable straw.

2. Buy reusable containers.

3. Buy a reusable bag.

4. Buy fair trade products.

5. Buy from local farmers.

6. Try to buy fewer products wrapped in plastic.

7. Try eating less meat.

8. Try using less energy.

9. Try carpooling/take the bus.

10. Resell/donate your old clothes.

With the big 100 year anniversary quickly approaching, ISM has decided to focus this year on sustainability. There are a number of projects that will help the school reduce waste and use sustainable alternatives.

ISM is pushing students to bring their own cups as the ones that are currently being used are non-recyclable. As of November 4th, the Bearcat Cafe will no longer serve drinks in single use cups. There are many alternatives such as bringing your own cups which are sold in the Bearcat Den, or you can simply dine in and use a ceramic cup.

In the ISM Kantina a new rule is being implemented where if you bring your own container you get 5 pesos discount. There are more people using the plastic and paper containers than people bringing their own. Students hesitate to use reusable containers as they can be messy sometimes and the process of washing the container can be annoying, but if everyone contributes and uses reusable containers it would decrease the amount of plastic used dramatically. If you buy food at ISM everyday that means that you alone would use approximately 200 plastic containers in a year! However if you bring your own container this number can be reduced to one.

ISM has stopped using straws in the Kantina and Cafe as of last year as they are unnecessary and unsustainable. This was one of the first actions taken to make our ISM Kantina more sustainable. If you want to use a straw, a sustainable solution would be to use a metal/bamboo straw which is reusable and easy to carry with you. Follow ISM’s lead and work towards a more sustainable future!

Since the new decade is right around the corner, the latest movies and sequels are coming out. Team Subscroonies has decided to research more about the changes and differences in the new and recreations of movies and TV shows this decade.

Minions: Rise of Gru

age 5+

The NEW Minions movie is an upcoming feature film coming this 2020. The new Minions movie is a spinoff of the original Despicable Me franchise. The movie is a sequel of the Minions and the prequel of the first Despicable Me movie. This movie is directed by Kyle Balda and will be in theaters on June 18th, 2020 in Singapore. It is starring Steve Carell and Pierre Coffin.

Peter Rabbit

age 7+

One movie that is coming out in 2020 is the sequel of Peter Rabbit. The live-action Peter Rabbit movie was released on February 9th, 2018. Now, two years later, the sequel is around the corner. Peter Rabbit 2 is expected to be released on February 7th, 2020. Some voiceover actors in Peter Rabbit 2 are James Corden (Peter Rabbit), Rose Byrne (Jemima Puddle-Duck), Margot Robbie (Flopsy Rabbit), Sia (Mrs. Tiggy-winkle).

Sonic The Hedgehog

age 7+

Sonic the Hedgehog is an upcoming 2020 adventure movie that was inspired by the video game series, Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog is set to be release by February 13th, 2020. The new film was redesigned due to fans criticizing the movie heavily. Thankfully, the movie was redesigned into a better movie. The original video game series is nostalgic enough for the film to be a hit in the Box Office. Some stars who will be appearing in the movie are Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Jim Carrey (Dr. Ivo Robotnik), and James Marsden (Tom Wachowski).

Mulan

age 5+

As kids, we all fell in love with the movie series Mulan. The strong female lead, the representation of Chinese culture, and the iconic songs like reflection. Mulan is an upcoming, live-action film directed by Niki Caro. This movie is loosely a remake of the 1998 animated film Mulan but it is more based on the original Chinese legend. The film was announced to be in development on March 30th, 2015, and it is set to be released on March 27th, 2020. Though it is a remake, Disney has changed a lot of things due to it being more based on the original Chinese legend. Stars that are in the live-action film are Liu Yifei (Mulan), Yoson An (Chen Honghui), Jet Li (the emperor,) and Donnie Yen (Commander Tung).

Changes in Mulan:

There will be no songs in the live-action remake.
The villain, Shan-Yu is being replaced by a completely new character played by Gong Li.
A new character named Chen Honghui is replacing Mulan's love interest, Shang.
Mulan will have a new sister in the new movie.
