Finding Images

Start with the databases! Figuring out citations for images you find via Google is tricky. Simply copy and paste the citations directly from the databases.

Google Images: Tips

Tip #1: Remember, you MUST VISIT THE ACTUAL PAGE that your image is found on. Do not cite "Google Images" as your source.

Tip #2: Think outside the box! Don't just search for your topic.

For PEOPLE: search for events they were involved in; places where they lived; books or speeches they've written; pictures of their family; memorials or artwork of them; groups they were associated with, etc.

For EVENTS: include photos of newspaper articles that covered the event; timelines of the event; people involved in the event, etc.

For LEGISLATION:  include photos of people voting; photos of people marching/demonstrating in support of the law; photos of the law being signed; political cartoons; newspaper articles about the new law;  photos of the documents, etc.

For ORGANIZATIONS: search for their logo; famous events they were involved in; founders/leaders of the organization. You may want to include "civil rights movement" in your search.

Citing Images

Tip #3: You will need to cite all images in your Works Cited. You can follow the format below:

For a photo viewed online:

Last name, First name. Image Title. Publication Date. Publication Title, URL.
