Haunted House for Sale
Using the story “I’m Not Afraid of this Haunted House” by Laurie Friedman as a mentor text, the students started a fun and engaging descriptive writing activity this week. For this writing project the students take on the role of a real estate agent and write an advertisement to persuade a buyer to purchase their haunted house. After the initial brainstorming of nouns and adjectives, they completed a sensory detail planner listing things they would see, hear, feel, and smell if they entered a haunted house. Next week the students will complete an art project to go along with their ads.
Exploring Regions of Alberta
In our Social Studies class this week, we dived deeper into Alberta's diverse regions. To do this, students first began by creating visual journals that showcased Alberta’s unique landforms. These were useful as they explored an interactive website called Zooming In... Alberta's .Regions This resource allowed students to virtually explore the province’s 6 regions and gain insights into landforms, vegetation, wildlife and other fun facts specific to those regions.
Christmas Card Art
The students began their artwork for the Christmas Card Fundraiser this week. Their art will be turned into a one-of-a-kind Christmas card and will be available to view during parent teacher conferences. More information and order forms will be coming home soon.
