The Trouble With Chickens
The Trouble With Chickens
This week in Language Arts we began a novel study of the book “The Trouble With Chickens” by Doreen Cronin. J.J. Tully is a retired search-and-rescue dog, who is bored with life in the country. When a chicken named Moosh approaches and asks him to find her missing chicks, he's right on the case. While reading the novel as a class, we stop frequently to make predictions and to discuss what’s happening in the story. After each chapter, the students work on vocabulary words and answer questions to reinforce their comprehension.

Francophone Communities in Alberta
In Social Studies, the students learned about French settlements in Alberta. They discovered the history of the French language and Francophone communities within our province. The students worked on a project to research an early Francophone community and then presented their findings in the format of a postcard which also illustrated an important landmark.

Social Thinking and Me
Social Thinking and Me
Ms. Aleisha with Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) joined our class this week to present a new program called “Social Thinking and Me.” She explained that “Social Thinking” is the type of thinking your brain is doing to figure out yourself and other people. The students enjoyed working through various activities that focused on how we use the “social thinking” part of our brain when we are able to recognize non-verbal communication cues. Ms. Aleisha also discussed the importance of using our social smarts to be a “flexible” rather than “stuck” thinkers.
