World Art Day

On Monday, the students worked on a watercolour flower painting for World Art Day. This year’s theme was  “Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community through Art”. The students followed a guided art lesson where they drew a flower and were taught two different watercolour techniques. They used their knowledge of rainbows from our Science unit, “Light & Shadows” while painting their flowers.

Poem in Your Pocket

On Thursday, April 17th, we celebrated National Poem in Your Pocket Day. The idea is to share the joy of poetry by simply carrying a poem in your pocket and reading it to others throughout the day. The students were given the opportunity to write a “Colour Poem” as well as read a variety of poems to their peers. They also enjoyed creating a paper pocket to carry their poems around in for the day.

Coding with Mr. Maltais

Mr. Maltais joined our class on Thursday for a lesson in  MICRO:BIT CODING. The students enjoyed spending time programming their Micro:bits to send different flashing images, create a simple piano, as well as, make a circuit and light up an LED. Social Thinking and Me

This week Ms. Aleisha joined our class to present the final “Social Thinking and Me” lesson. This lesson focused on identifying the size of a problem and how to match the reaction. A big problem may affect a lot of people and is serious enough for an adult to handle. Medium problems are things that happen that we didn’t expect and aren’t easy to quickly fix. Small problems are little unexpected situations that can be easily fixed as long as you stay calm. Ms. Aleisha worked through different scenarios with the students to determine if a problem was big, medium, or small and how their reaction should match the size of the problem.
