The Wild Robot

During DEAR time we have been reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Check out the video to watch the trailer for the book.

Orange Shirt Day

We spent a few days discussing the meaning and importance of “Truth and Reconciliation.” The students listened to a variety of stories about the Indigenous people and the residential school system. They also learned about Phyllis Webstad and heard her personal story of heartache, bravery and perseverance.

Healing Hand Metis Dot Art

In art this week the students painted their handprints using a technique called “Metis Dot Art.” The hand symbolizes healing and acknowledging the importance of reconciliation. We discussed the value of learning about the history of the residential school system and how it has impacted the Indigenous communities. The students enjoyed expressing their own creativity while exploring pointillism, a painting technique that involves small dots that form a picture.
