Upcoming Professional Development

Reminder:  ESOL Professional Development Sessions

Our monthly ESOL PDs have been divided so that everyone can leave school buildings in time for COVID 19 cleaning processes and procedures.  Our ESOL General Session is the second Tuesday of each month.  Our ESOL Instructional Coaches provide PD on the third Tuesday of each month.  For the Month of November, our General Session is November 10th and the IC sessions are November 17th. Looking forward to "seeing" all of you soon on Zoom!

November ESOL PD - Registration links

Please make sure you register using the correct link for the session you plan to attend. This helps with the sign-in code during the session. For example, if you register for Secondary Newcomer Curriculum (Inside the USA), but attend Secondary Curriculum (Fundamentals 1 & 2 Levels A-C) then the sign-in code provided will not work for you. You then have to manually be added to the portal under the correct session and then awarded credit.

Also, please select how you want to receive points (as Recertification Credit or Exchange Day) at the time of registration. After the PD, you have 5 days to go back and change how you receive your points should you change your mind.

Greenville Literacy Association Opportunity for Parents - Please share forward with your Community

Do you have parents that could benefit from low cost ESL classes?  Greenville Literacy Association (GLA) is currently accepting new students for our adult ESL program.  Classes will be January - March 2021.  $80 includes registration, Skype classes 4 times/week and access to Rosetta Stone.  Scholarship is available to those who cannot pay.

Updates:  ESOL Open Office Hours

We are here to support you!  We are excited to hold open time each week to support you.  You do not have to sign-up!  You simply enter the Zoom link if you have questions or need assistance.  Please note some sessions are specific to New ESOL Teachers.  Each of the ICs have an assigned mentor group.  If you are a new ESOL Teacher, please see the chart below to know who is your support person.

IMPORTANT CHANGE:  For our Elementary ICs (Christine Ware and Latoi Gibson) November 6th will be the last open Office Hours since all Elementary Schools will be on the 5 day a week schedule.  Today will also be Kerry Culpepper's last Open Office Hours as she will be teaching on Fridays.  She is available through e-mail to set up a support time.  Tanya Franca and the Secondary ICs (Tonya Benjamin and Blanca O'Connor) will continue to hold Friday Office Hours.  Any changes with the schedule will be communicated.

ALL ESOL Teachers are welcome to attend all other open office hours to receive needed support!

All English Proficiency Codes MUST Be Entered!

We have now PASSED the funding date which was the 45th day, October 27th!  We still have  400AWs in my pull November 4th!!!! Remind your Clerks to enter a 9 for students that have ALL English on the Home Language Survey (HLS). We are currently using the EL student numbers to plan for ESOL Teacher allocations and FTEs for the remainder of the year and the 2020-2021 school year!  We need these 400 AWs with Proficiency Codes to increase our allocations and give an accurate projection of need for each school.  Please get the English Proficiency Codes entered!!!!!

Power School Updates

Parent Notification Dates

The Parent Notification Date has been uploaded.  If you had a date in Enrich for your Parent Notification Letter (created and/or submitted), a mass upload was completed on November 2nd in Power School.  If you had any Parent Notification Letters created in Enrich for students ON or AFTER November 2nd, you must communicate the date with your Power School Clerk to have it entered for the individual students.  If you have any new students in which you complete their Parent Notification Letter ON or AFTER November 2nd, you must continue to communicate the date with your Power School Clerk for entry.

ESOL Program Codes (Services Models and ESOL Cohorts)

We are in the process of creating a mass upload procedure for the ESOL Cohorts and ESOL Program Service Models.  Information will be shared on November 10th during our General Session.  Please do not communicate with your Power School clerks yet concerning these codes.

Rosetta Stone English (Elementary ESOL Teachers)

We have been able to complete the purchase process for Rosetta Stone English with the approval of the Title III Grant from the State Department.  We are working on implementation.  The goal is to have a launch training on November 17th.  Once students are correctly uploaded and the company confirms the date, we will switch out the Elementary ESOL PD session already scheduled for November 17th with Rosetta Stone English training.  Please watch for updates in case we are able to switch out the PD!
