Week of August 10th

WELCOME BACK!

We are getting ready for the 2020-2021 school year!

Upcoming Professional Development

Lesson Planet ESOL Sessions

We are offering sessions August 11th to demonstrate how to access the National Geographic lessons that have already been created and uploaded into Lesson Planet for your use!  For Elementary, the lessons are for the Reach in the USA (Newcomers) Curriculum.  For the Secondary, the lessons are the units in all 4 National Geographic Curriculum Texts:  Inside the USA, Fundamentals Vol 1 and 2, and Inside A,B, and C.  Eventually, the first 2 units of each curriculum will be available for your use.  Some lessons are already available for you to explore and will be shared during this PD session, but the goal is to have all lessons uploaded by August 19th.  Please attend one of the sessions.  Lesson Planet professional development and support will be provided by your school based Instructional Coach.  These ESOL sessions are specifically how to access and use the lessons created for you during the summer in Lesson Planet to help get you started.  The sessions will be recorded and shared out at a later date in our Newsletter.

ESOL Boot Camp Training Modules

As a part of what would have been Summer Academy, we created a self-paced virtual “training/course” titled ESOL Boot Camp. Within the Boot Camp were modules for ESOL teachers to review which also included the required WIDA screener  training that is to be completed yearly. Below is a list of the modules along with links to access each as well as the resources.

***Please note: The links to the modules will force you to make a copy before accessing and the resources are PDFs.

Reminder and Clarifications

GCSource and access to data

Due to so many factors, many are unable to access your GCSource non 9 reports.  Just know it is being worked on and the major issue is that students have to be scheduled to you in order for you to see the data.  We will talk more about this process in our opening meeting on August 12th.

To support you in the meantime, you will receive a non 9 of current students for your school.  This will be sent to you via e-mail from Kerry Culpepper, Christine Ware, or Tonya Benjamin.  Some of you I sent one personally to.  Do Not solely depend on this list to determine identification of students for the W-APT and WIDA Screener.  Make sure you check with the registrar concerning new students and the current Home Language Surveys (HLS).

We are always here to support and looking forward to "seeing"  you all soon!
