Lexia English Training

Thank you all for participating in the Lexia English Trainings on Sept. 20th and Oct. 18th.   If you were not able to attend any of the trainings, you can use these slides for guidance

The purpose of the Lexia English curriculum is to provide support to your Newcomers with the Listening and Speaking language domains. The criteria for using the Lexia English program are 1st-5th graders  with a US entry date of August 1, 2022 to present.  The ESOL teachers will frontload daily  mini-lessons during their Newcomer Pull-Outs to support the language of speaking.  Students will then need headsets with a microphone to use the computer part of the program-at least 45 minutes a week-while in their classroomsThe goal is for our MLs to start implementation of the program following the Lexia English training.

Lexia English Trouble Shooting

Here are a few links and resources Lexia English has shared to support the mic or speech recognition issues that have come up for Lexia English. If an error is coming up saying "You are speaking too loud" generally the student mic is too close to the student's mouth. They emphasize is that educators model and reiterate best practices when using the program.:

What are best practices when using the  Speech Recognition Engine?

Hope this helps.

LEXIA ENGLISH

Rosetta Stone English name has been changed to Lexia English . Some of the updates include:

• Lexia English now includes a one-time placement tool that determines the correct entry point into the program

• Students expand their appreciation for learning about new cultures, languages, food, and communities as our characters have interesting facts to share.

 • Each character presents two Fun Facts from within each level, totaling 152 engaging facts.

• Students can rehear the listening passage one time prior to answering the question, whereas in all other Listening units, students can rehear the passage unlimited times.

• Levels 12 and up include new reward animations for the completion of units.

Resources for teachers include:

(Resource Hub):

• Lexia Lessons Slide Decks for 229 teacher-led speaking lessons (229 total)

 • Character GIFs to use as animated rewards have been added.

( myLexia Updates):

 • New School Usage reporting provides a high-level view of class and student usage for the school year to date.

 • New Class Placement reporting allows educators to easily track the status of student placement in the Lexia English program, monitor student performance in Auto Placement, and see where students are currently placed.

The Lexia English has a lot of great resources on the Resource Hub for teachers and parents.  The "Home to School" tab provides letters and videos in multiple languages for parents to help their students with Rosetta Stone English at home.  The "Support for Instruction" tab provides great instructional materials in listening and speaking for students at the different Proficiency Levels.

There's also a placement guide to show how the Lexia English lessons align with the WIDA language Proficiency levels. (This is located on the "Guides & Manuals" tab under "Scope & Sequence" in the Lexia English Resource Hub)

This PD defined Focus Groups and described their purpose.  The Focus Group PD also gave an example of  how to use the Rosetta Stone English (now Lexia English)  curriculum to find speaking lessons to increase speaking instruction within a Speaking Focus Group.
