In this course, students will gain experience in planning projects, managing materials and using a range of hand and power tools.
Students will work on joinery and furniture projects and will complete work booklets to support the practical knowledge.
The program of work focuses on developing practical skills using Unit Standards developed and moderated by BCITO, an Industry Training Organisation (ITO).
COURSE COSTS
There is a course contribution for this course of approximately $110. This will cover the cost of course material, and will be confirmed in 2026.

The following standards will be offered throughout this course:
Unit Standard 12932 v5 - Construct timber garden furniture as BCATS project
Internal Assessment, worth 8 credits
Unit Standard 24350 v3 - Identify, select, use and maintain portable power tools for BCATS projects
Internal Assessment, worth 6 credits
Unit Standard 24354 v3 - Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety legislation and apply safe working practices in a BCATS environment
Internal Assessment, worth 4 credits
Unit Standard 24358 v3 - Plan and monitor the construction of a BCATS project, and quality check the product
Internal Assessment, worth 3 credits
Total credits available for this course: 21 NCEA Level 2 credits
