In this course, students will cover the topics of Whenua and Sovereignty, and Civil Rights.
In Whenua and Sovereignty students will examine how sovereignty over whenua was contested through events like the New Zealand Wars, culminating with an assessment on the Invasion of Parihaka.
The Civil Rights topic will explore the social and political changes that occurred during the movement for African-American Civil Rights in the USA, focusing on the origins of racism and slavery, the emergence and use of non-violent protest, and the rise of the Black Power Movement.
