English 9 is a skills-based course to help student develop proficiencies in the areas of reading, literary analysis, writing, grammar and usage, oral communication, and research.  Students will be asked to do close readings of both literary and informational text. Students will also learn the art of analyzing and writing arguments as well as analyzing and evaluating informational texts. Students will write both argumentative, narrative, and informational pieces. Students will learn how to discuss text using evidence from text to guide them.

AP LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION

AP Literature and Composition is a college-level class regarding literature and composition. Students will be expected to use careful reading skills and critical analysis of literature. In Geometry, students will develop geometric skills and concepts, as well as  the ability to construct formal logical arguments in a geometric setting. Students will cover formal geometry concepts, connect algebra and geometry, and use geometry to solve real-life problems. Students will explore plane and solid geometry, properties of geometric figures, similarity and congruence, and formal logic and proof.  This course will prepare students for Algebra 2.

Algebra 2 is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts.  It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and powers and includes the study of trigonometric and logarithmic functions.  The course will introduce matrices and their properties.

Statistics & Probability provides tools for describing variability in data and for making informed decisions that take numbers into account.”  Statistics and Probability is designed for college bound students who have demonstrated success in Algebra II and desire to continue to explore a large range of topics with an emphasis on real-world applications.


A section of Statistics will be offered during third trimester each year so that juniors can complete Algebra II and take Statistics in the same year.



TRIGONOMETRY

Trigonometry has its origins in the study of triangle measurement.  Natural generalizations of the ratios of right-triangle trigonometry gives rise to both trigonometric and circular functions.  These functions, especially the sine and cosine, are mathematical models for many periodic real world phenomena.  Students studying trigonometry will explore data from such real world phenomena.  They will also identify and analyze the corresponding trigonometric models.

Forensics is an elective course for students interested in pursuing a career in the criminal justice field after high school.  Forensic science is the application of science to the law and encompasses various scientific disciplines.
