This course is designed for you to be able to write with confidence on any business writing assignment that is assigned for you to do in your future workplace. Every industry has its own special terminology and form of writing. Business writing as a career spans a wide variety of industries and subjects, and there are many job titles that are associated with business writing: Journalist, Technical Communicator, Information Designer, Information Developer, Information Architect, Instructional Designer, Lawyer, Developer, and Engineer are a few.A skilled business writer must be curious, quick to learn, and good at seeing and organizing patterns in information. They must be diligent in researching their topic, understand the audience for whom they are writing, and have the ability to present complex information clearly and simply.
CREATIVE WRITING

This course allows students to explore the process of writing in a workshop setting. Students will write, share, critique, & attempt to publish a wide variety of genres with a focus on poetry, fiction, memoir, and drama. One goal of the course is to expose students to types of writing not typically taught in the English or Journalism classroom. As participants in writing workshop, students will explore the craft of writing through several stages, including prewriting, drafting, revision, & editing. As a group, students will collaborate to critique and mentor each other as they grow as a community of writers. Through study of authors, students will examine models of good writing and discuss techniques they can use themselves.
GRAMMAR FOR COLLEGE AND LIFE

This course covers a selective review of English grammar as it relates to writing style. Units will focus on the independent clause, the subject, the verb, and the modifier, with the goals of addressing the maximum number of the most serious stylistic errors and increasing the knowledge and use of effective sentence-combination techniques.
YEARBOOK

PREREQUISITE: INSTRUCTOR RECOMMENDATION, B OR BETTER IN PRIOR ENGLISH COURSEWORK

THIS COURSE IN AN ELECTIVE CREDIT AND WILL NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE REQUIRED EIGHT ENGLISH CREDITS.

21st Century Design and Development covers the development of the high school yearbook. It is an educational experience, as well as a form of career education. The course involves training and hands-on experience in the following areas: photography, writing, layout and design, online production with Online Design, planning and organization skills, meeting deadlines, evaluating work, leadership, and fundraising to fund the production of the yearbook.
Trimester 1 of Yearbook is exploratory. Students must take the first trimester of training in order to take any subsequent trimesters.
As determined by the adviser, students who would like to continue in Yearbook for the second and third trimesters must meet their responsibilities as a member of the staff in order to remain on staff.
**In addition, students who wish to become officers must commit to all three trimesters. Each trimester is worth one credit.
