ADVANCED AGRONOMY

Students will go through a more in depth study of agronomy and other related industries. Major units include: soil classifications, soil erosion and management, soil fertility, plant classification, plant anatomy and physiology, plant propagation, plant growth, IPM (integrated pest management), grain, forage, sugar, crop production methods, and grain quality, storage, and transportation. Applied science and math skills and concepts will be stressed throughout the course as they relate to each area. Participation in FFA student organization and activities and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects is an integral course component for leadership development, career exploration, and reinforcement of academic concepts.
ADVANCED ANIMAL SCIENCE

Students will go through a more in depth study of livestock (beef, dairy, sheep, goats, and swine), poultry, and large (equine) animal industry. Topics of instruction include scientific investigations, genetics, animal anatomy and physiology, animal nutrition and reproduction, animal health and handling practices. This course will develop students’ understanding of the agricultural industry relating to the United States and World marketplace. Instructional units include: business ownership types, planning and organizing, financing, keeping and using records, and operating in the agribusiness, agricultural law, taxes, and developing employability skills. Student skills will be enhanced in math, reading comprehension, and writing through agribusiness applications. Improving computer and workplace skills will be a focus. AGRICULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS

This course introduces the broad field of agricultural communications and provides for the development of knowledge and skill in specific areas related to communications theory and practice. Content includes the meaning and process of communication, the role and history of print and electronic media, legal aspects of agricultural communications, news, and feature writing in agriculture, news photography, layout and design, and ethics in agricultural communications.

This course is designed to develop student knowledge and skills in Agricultural Sales, Agribusiness Marketing, and Commodity Marketing. Instructional units include agricultural economic principles, marketing, and advertising, product development, sales techniques and strategies, communicating with employees and customers, managing risk , international agribusiness, and studying various agricultural companies and career opportunities. Computer software applications and the internet will be integrated through data management, communications, and writing through agribusiness applications. NATURAL RESOURCES

This course develops management and conservation skills in understanding the connection between agriculture and natural resources. Student knowledge and skills are developed in understanding natural resources and their importance; fish, wildlife, prairies, and forestry management and conservation; and exploring outdoor recreational enterprises. Hunting and fishing as a sport, growing and managing tree forests, and outdoor safety education will be featured. Career exploration will be discussed including park ranger, game warden, campground manager, forester, conservation officer, wildlife manager, and related occupations. WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

In this class there is an emphasis on conservation of natural resources and frequently including outdoor recreation topics. Wildlife Management courses provide students with the opportunity to understand and appreciate the importance of maintaining the land and ecological systems that enable non-domesticated animals to thrive. Wildlife Management courses emphasize how humans and animals may both take advantage of the same land or how to gain economic benefits from the land while not degrading its natural resources or depleting plant or animal populations.
