Elective Courses

STATISTICS

OPEN TO: 11, 12

PREREQUISITE: C OR BETTER IN ALGEBRA 2, RIT SCORE OF 234 OR HIGHER ON THE MAP MATH TEST

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: NO

CAPACITY: 30

Statistics & Probability provides tools for describing variability in data and for making informed decisions that take numbers into account.”  Statistics and Probability is designed for college bound students who have demonstrated success in Algebra II and desire to continue to explore a large range of topics with an emphasis on real-world applications.

A section of Statistics will be offered during third trimester each year so that juniors can complete Algebra II and take Statistics in the same year.

TRIGONOMETRY

OPEN TO: 11, 12

PREREQUISITE: C OR BETTER IN ALGEBRA 2, RIT SCORE OF 234 OR HIGHER ON THE MAP MATH TEST

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: NO

CAPACITY: 30

Trigonometry has its origins in the study of triangle measurement.  Natural generalizations of the ratios of right-triangle trigonometry gives rise to both trigonometric and circular functions.  These functions, especially the sine and cosine, are mathematical models for many periodic real world phenomena.  Students studying trigonometry will explore data from such real world phenomena.  They will also identify and analyze the corresponding trigonometric models.

A section of Trigonometry will be offered during third trimester each year so that juniors can complete Algebra 2 and take Trigonometry in the same year.
