Foundational Courses

ALGEBRA 1 (HONORS SECTION AVAILABLE)

OPEN TO: 9

PREREQUISITE: NONE

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: YES

CAPACITY: 30

Algebra 1 will help students to view algebra as a theoretical tool for analyzing and describing mathematical relationships.  Students will also experience the power of algebraic thinking in a context of applications by studying the mathematical modeling of real world problems.

GEOMETRY (HONORS SECTION AVAILABLE)

OPEN TO: 10

PREREQUISITE: ALGEBRA 1

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: YES

CAPACITY: 30

In Geometry, students will develop geometric skills and concepts, as well as  the ability to construct formal logical arguments in a geometric setting. Students will cover formal geometry concepts, connect algebra and geometry, and use geometry to solve real-life problems. Students will explore plane and solid geometry, properties of geometric figures, similarity and congruence, and formal logic and proof.  This course will prepare students for Algebra 2.

ALGEBRA 2 (HONORS SECTION AVAILABLE)

OPEN TO: 11

PREREQUISITE: GEOMETRY

GRADUATION REQUIREMENT: YES

CAPACITY: 30

Algebra 2 is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts.  It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and powers and includes the study of trigonometric and logarithmic functions.  The course will introduce matrices and their properties.
