Bylaw XIV
Board Policies
1. In addition to these bylaws the board may adopt policies. Adoption of new policies or changing existing policies is solely the responsibility of the board, based on recommendations by the policy committee.
2. Proposals for new policies or revisions of current policies may be made in writing by anyone connected with or interested in the school, and may be presented to the policy committee through the head of school or the policy committee chair. The policy committee shall review the proposal, forwarding it to other appropriate committees for their recommendations, and either approve it for recommendation to the board or reject it and inform the person(s) submitting the proposal of the reason for the rejection. The adoption of board policies shall follow the sequence below:
(a) Distribution of proposed or revised policy with board papers;
(b) Review of concerned individual or group responses by the board through the head of school or the policy committee chair;
(c) Discussion and final action by the board.
3. The formal adoption of policies shall be recorded in the minutes of the board meeting. Policies shall be effective immediately upon adoption, unless an effective date is specified.
