Course description:
In this course students will study:
the concepts of music
performing, composing and listening through various learning experiences
a range of styles, periods and genres within a variety of contexts
Year 9 and 10 course topics:
Compulsory topic – Australian Music
Elective topics selected from:
Western art music
Music of a culture
Popular music / contemporary music
Jazz
Multimedia Music
In Music, students learn to perform music in a range of musical contexts, compose music that represents the topics they have studied and listen with discrimination, meaning and appreciation to a broad range of musical styles.
The study of the concepts of music underpin the development of skills in performing, composing and listening.
Skills you will master:
The study of music combines the development of cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains in such a way that all domains contribute equally to the act of making music. The nature of music study allows students to develop their capacity to manage their own learning, work together with others, engage in activity that reflects the real world practice of performers, composers and audiences.
Students will develop:
skills performing on their chosen instrument or vocals
skills creating and composing musical works
critical thinking skills
listening and aural skills
Equipment required:
Students must be learning to play a musical instrument or sing. Participating in music performances is a compulsory part of this course.
