Course description:
Much of Australia’s economic, social and cultural development can be related to the capacity of our industries to develop and use technology in the manufacture of goods and services.
Industrial Technology has been developed to incorporate content related to current and developing technologies. It offers students the opportunity to study the interrelationships of technologies, equipment and materials used by industry and to develop skills through the processes of design, planning and production.
Industrial Technology – Multimedia is a Stage 6 course and has a Preliminary and HSC component.
The Preliminary Course of 120 indicative hours consists of project work and an Industry Study that provide a broad range of skills and knowledge related to the focus area chosen and an introduction to industrial processes and practices related to the multimedia industries.
The HSC course of 120 indicative hours consists of the development of a Major Project and Industry Study.
Both the Preliminary and HSC courses are organised around four sections:
1) Industry Study
2) Design, Management and Production
3) Workplace Communication
4) Industry-specific Content
A range of assessment strategies will be used in order to assess student performance. These include: class tests; half yearly, yearly and trial HSC examinations, Industry visits; case studies; development of practical projects; and documentation of practical projects (folios).

Possible learning experiences/excursions:
Major project:
Students will begin in Term 4 of Year 11 Construction of a Major Project of their choice in the chosen Focus Industry. This will be examined by the visiting NESA Examiners during term 3 in year 12. This allows the student the opportunity to show case the skills and talents that they have in their chosen Focus Industry.

Students will be required to supply their own materials for completion of their Major Project. Consumables such as nails, screws, glues etc. will still be supplied to the student.
