Course description:
2 Unit 2 Year, BEC (Board Endorsed Course – non ATAR)
The Stage 6 Ceramics course is a hands-on course. Ceramics is the art and technology of forming, firing and glazing clay to make a wide variety of products, ranging from building materials to ceramic ware such as plates, bowls and drinking vessels, jewelry, sculpture and decorative wall surfaces. Students will have the opportunity to learn hand building, slab, pinch, coil construction and pottery wheel work. Students will then use this knowledge and experience to develop ideas in areas of interest and complete individual projects using in-depth skills specific to ceramics technologies, materials and processes. This course is a great course to pair with Visual Arts ATAR.
Exclusions: cannot submit same artworks as HSC Visual Arts
Year 11 course topics :
Students will study 2 mandatory modules - Introduction to Ceramics and WH & S and at least THREE topics from a prescribed list of Modules, covering a range of contexts such as:
Hand building
Wheel Throwing and pottery wheel work
Sculptural Forms
Kilns
Glaze Technology
Casting
Surface Treatment
Mixed Media.
Independent Ceramic project

Historical/Critical & Technical studies (30%)
Year 12 course topics :
Students will study mandatory module WH&S and at least THREE topics from the prescribed Modules. The topics must be different from those studied in the Preliminary course
