Course description:
2 Unit, 2 Year, Category B. This is an ATAR subject.
Visual Arts involves students in the practices of art making, art criticism and art history. Students develop their own artworks, culminating in a practical Body of Work in the HSC course which represents 50% of their HSC mark. Students gain knowledge and understanding in different art forms in order to demonstrate their ability to resolve their ideas. Students critically and historically investigate artworks, critics, historians and artists from Australia as well as those from other cultures, traditions and times. This latter component involves developing and applying critical analysis skills to respond to the written examination. The examination involves writing extended responses based on visual stimuli and the unpacking of essay style questions.

The nature and practice of art making, art criticism and art history.
The role and function of artists, artworks the world and audiences.
The different ways visual arts may be interpreted, and points of view formed.
Developing interest, focus and meaning in own art making.
Building understanding through investigations of various forms.

Exclusions: Students are not able to submit the same work from a Board Endorsed Course (BEC) e.g.: Photography work if undertaking HSC Photography in their pattern of study.
