Course description:
This course is specifically designed to give students a ‘hands on’ approach to creating a piece of theatre. Students will be involved in the entire process of producing a full-length drama production for stage. Auditions will be held for actors and, where possible, students will be allocated specialised duties of their choice, such as sound engineering; lighting control; props and costume design and various administration roles such as backstage organisation. (These students might also be required to play a small role in the play as well.) All rehearsals will be held in class time and the play will be performed for several audiences later in the year.
Skills you will master:
Explore ways of changing your physicality and voice to create different characters
Develop collaborative skills by working closely with other students
Experience the process of developing a script from casting to performance
Develop skill in various ways to approaching a script and turning it into a coherent performance
Specialise in at least one aspect of theatrical production
Gain confidence by performing in front of an audience
Equipment required:
Script provided. Props/costumes etcetera will be paid for from course fees.
Career opportunities:
This course will help you if you wish to become an actor and/or if you wish to work in the theatre. It can also help you explore your talent as a set, props, SFX or lighting designer.
Possible learning experiences/excursions:
If the opportunity arises the class will attend a musical theatre performance.
