Week 2
25 October 2024
Kia ora, EBIS Whānau
We are well underway in term 4 with lots already going on.
Over the last couple of evenings teams from EBIS have participated in the EPRO8 Semi finals held at South Wellington Intermediate School.
For those unfamiliar with EPRO8 it is a team science and engineering competition.
Two of our teams have now progressed to the final for the Wellington region which is a great achievement of which they will be proud.
This term in inquiry we are building to our Extravaganza where students showcase their learning in relation to our unit “The World of Arts”.
We are also continuing the Health unit which covers puberty. If you have any questions about this please contact your child’s teacher.
Term 4 represents an exciting time for all, but particularly for our Year 8 students. There will be College visits and transition opportunities taking place throughout the term, but we remind the students to look forward to what comes next, while also reminding them to not rush to the next step, but to enjoy the last couple of months here at EBIS.
One event we really enjoy with our Year 8 students is the annual Leavers Dinner. This will be taking place at Dragon Restaurant on Tory Street on 28 November, starting at 5:30pm. More information is coming about this soon.
Finally we remind you that Tuesday is a teacher only day. This means school is closed to students on this day. Thank you for your support with this and please enjoy the extra long weekend.

We are having a Food Culture Day on Tuesday 12th November and will have shared dishes on this day. Please bring a cultural dish special to your family that students could share at the 9.30 am food festival on Tuesday 12th November. It could be anything from Scones to Samosas but it should be something associated with the student’s culture.
If your student has any cultural dress, it would be amazing if they wore this to school instead of uniform on Wednesday the 13th of November. They might not have full traditional clothes and might just have something simple that gives a nod towards their culture such as a Tartan top. If they do not have any cultural dress the expectation is that students wear uniform.
If any adults want to run any cultural workshops (craft, dance, sport, singing, or cooking related) on Wednesday 13th November between 11-12.30 please let skadlec@ebis.school.nz know.
Thank you!
Last term we studied stencil making and then spray painted them. We have them up in our hallway. Our focus was on static images and sending messages through art. We looked at historical messages and protests then we looked at a message we wanted to send and tried to think of what would fit this.
We were lucky enough to have an instructor come in to teach us all about Padder Tennis!

Evans Bay Intermediate school band “Brainjuice” were incredibly successful in their second ever performance as a band at the Intermediate rocks competition last week. The band has been giving up their lunchtimes all year to hone their skills, and were as ready as ever to grace the stage. Their all New Zealand songs setlist of Vampires by the Dukes and Glitter by Benee had the crowd roaring with excitement. In an act of true rock and roll spirit, Elvis the drummer gave away his drumsticks to the most active dancer in the audience- a nice spin on our whanaungatanga awards. The band managed to sneak away with two awards; Best intro and best costumes, and have earnt themselves a well deserved break. Well done Brainjuice.
This is just a brief reminder of the closing dates for entries to the 2024 FAB Arts Competition. Only one month to go!
The FAB trust is passionate about the arts and supporting young artists to pursue their passion and talent. Since 2010 we have distributed $98,000 to students of Wellington's Eastern Suburbs to encourage young artists' love of a wide variety of art forms. Every year our school-age judges select three prizewinners to receive a total of $7,000 in bursary payments (1st. $3,500, 2nd. $2,100, 3rd. $1,400). In one months time we will be doing this again!
There is no cost to enter
