Week 6
17 November 2023
Kia ora EBIS Whanau.
Another busy fortnight has passed with EBIS students displaying the school values in particular Success.
In the sports arena, teams have represented EBIS in WRISSA Swimming, Underwater Hockey and a friendly Rugby 7s game against Paremata School. The final WRISSA tournament for the year will be held in week 7 where students will represent the school playing softball.
Ākauwaiata have had a busy few weeks with 3 major performances. The kapa travelled to Levin for the Intermediate Pasifika festival where they joined 12 other Wellington intermediates in showing what they have been learning and practising throughout the year.
The following Monday Ākauwaiata participated in the Motu Kairangi schools kapa haka event at the Akau Tangi Sports Centre. This event gave our students a chance to see students from their previous schools perform and also to look at performances from both Rongotai and Wellington East Girls.
Then a depleted group travelled to Upper Hutt for Intermediate Kapa Haka festival, Te Ora Atamira. This event in particular showed the resilience of the kapa as multiple students took on kaea roles due to the absence of the regular kaea. Tino pai rawa koutou.
A notice for the Year 8 Leavers Dinner has already gone out. This is a fun social event for all the Year 8’s to dress up and gather together to celebrate their time at Evans Bay Intermediate. Like last year this will be held at Dragon Restaurant on Tory Street on the evening of the 30th November.
You will shortly receive notification about the upcoming EOTC activities which includes a Wellington arts experience and a city scavenger hunt. These will be taking place during the final two weeks of the year and will require parental support to happen. If you are willing to help with these activities the notice will detail all the events and how to volunteer.
Thank you all for your continued support as we head to the end of another school year.

Rainbow and Care Club
Rainbow club recently painted the pump track poles to represent some of the different identities within our school and wider community. The flags we chose to represent on the poles were:
Pan-sexual flag
Aromantic and Asexual flags (merged into one)
Transgender flag
Bisexual flag
LGBTQIA+- 6 colour pride flag
Nonbinary flag
We liked the flag designs as we figured they only meant something to the Rainbow community and its’ allies, assuming that to anyone else the poles are just randomly colourful.
Care club also raised $530 selling calendars and the funds will go directly to UNICEF.
Well done to our amazing EBIS clubs.
