Week 4
3 November 2023
Kia ora, EBIS Whānau
Wow, just wow!
That’s the only way to begin in describing the last two nights and the Evans Bay Intermediate School production “Space Education”.
What an amazing showcase of talent, in interpretive dance, slam poetry and a modernised retelling of Romeo and Juliet set in the Hutt Valley, all in the setting of a parent teacher interview held at Evans Bay Intergalactic School.
The dedication of the staff and students who put on this show stretches back months as lines were learned, choreography perfected, sets designed and costumes created. We are truly fortunate to have had this group of students who have been willing to give up their own time in the pursuit of artistic success.
The staff involved have also selflessly given up their time. In particular huge acknowledgement goes to Kerri Battersby and James Ruscoe. From the original script that James developed, through to the smooth operation backstage, these two have poured their hearts into making this the best show possible.
A huge thank you to all involved, and also all who attended this show, it was undoubtedly a highlight of the year.
Last weekend there was another show held in the school hall with the SoundsWell Singers neurological choir holding their annual fundraiser. As a school we were proud to present them with $400 raised at a recent non uniform day, as well as joining the choir onstage to support them through sign language as they performed Pepeha by Six60.
Our school baseball team, that’s right we have a baseball team placed 4th at the recent WRISSA tournament, while the touch team finished 3rd at this WRISSA event last week.
Over the last few weeks we’ve welcomed the local high schools to meet with our teachers and support transitions for our Year 8 students to high school. This is a time teachers look forward to as they get to share about the wonderful students before their next step on their educational journey.
Thank you as always for the support you all show towards the school. We acknowledge and appreciate that none of the events that are held are possible without the parents being willing to drop off, pick up and transfer students.

Kia ora,
EBIS students have worked hard to create a 2024 calendar using symbols and patterns to represent themselves and their culture. This 20cmx20cm calendar can be purchased for $25 via the Calendar art order form and paying via kindo. The profit goes towards UNICEF as part of the EBIS Care Club initiative. UNICEF works to protect and support children worldwide. Please order by the 7th of October to avoid disappointment.
Congratulations to the following students who are featured in the calendar.
