Week 2
26 October 2023
Kia ora EBIS whānau
Sorry for the delay in this edition of Te Whakanui o Ākautangi it has been a hectic start to the term with lots of absence.
There has been so much going on with sporting events, production rehearsals and cultural events all taking place.
During Week 2 we had 48 students travel to Palmerston North to participate in the first Toa Whakaihuwaka Sports Festival. This brought together schools from Taranaki, Manawatū and Wellington competing across four sports. The students representing EBIS did so while demonstrating each of our three school values. Ultimately each performed with distinction in fiercely competitive games. Congratulations to all of our student athletes with the Girls Football placing 3rd, Boys Football 4th, Girls Basketball 5th and the Boys Basketball winning their competition.
A huge thank you to Paul Chalk, Adam Hart, Jen Carey and Chris Tupu for the work they put in organising and coaching their teams.
We also participated in WRISSA baseball this week finishing 4th which was a fantastic effort for a team still learning the game.
It is not just on the sports field where our students are finding success with our EPRO 8 teams representing the school in these STEAM focussed competitions. Congratulations to all participants, particularly those who’ve progressed to the final.
Just around the corner we have a couple of huge events in the performance field, with Toa Ākauwaiata performing at the Wellington Intermediate School Pasifika Festival in Levin on 27 October.
Next week the hall will be taken over as the bi-annual school production takes place. Space Education promises to be a hugely enjoyable show and is being staged over two nights, Wednesday 1 November and Thursday 2 November. At just $10 it promises to be an enjoyable night out at an affordable price so please come along and support the performers.
A massive thank you to James Ruscoe and Kerri Battersby for all the work they have put into getting this show ready for the stage.
This Saturday the SoundsWell Singers, a neurodiverse choir are holding their annual fundraising concert at 2pm. This is a great cause and we urge you to support it.
For those looking to enrol their child at Evans Bay Intermediate School we are holding a competition to win $50 vouchers from NZ Uniforms to support uniform purchase. To be eligible all you have to do is complete enrolment by 3pm Tuesday 7 November. Those students already enrolled will be in the draw.
Speaking of uniform the Year 8 hoodies have arrived and look great. These can be uniform for the rest of the year.
Finally thank you to all the support we have received from students and whānau. It has been a busy start to the term and we couldn’t provide the opportunities we have without your support. Enjoy the weekend.

Kia ora koutou EBIS whānau
We hope everyone in our community has had rest, health and quality time with whānau over the school holidays.
As Term 4 begins the Board is sharing some changes with the recently promoted By-election in our school community. Two of our valued Trustees, Lynley Thomas and Michelle Kitney, are leaving the Board. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for the time, energy and care they have contributed over recent years (Lynley since 2020 and Michelle since 2022) to our school through Board governance. We appreciate all that they have given to what is essentially a volunteer role.
We can also advise the By-election results - two nominations were received. The Board welcome Sarah Neilson and Joerg Bungert as incoming Trustees and look forward to whanaungatanga and working with them.

Whether it be playing classical music, improvising, composing, or playing along to pop songs/film soundtracks, music has allowed me to express myself in so many different ways, which is why I'd Iove to pass on my passion and knowledge onto the next generation."
