Week 6
2 June 2023
Kia ora EBIS Whanau
We have passed the halfway mark for the term, and the next two weeks look to be more settled and focused on work in class.
Teachers are now beginning the process of compiling data and writing the mid-year reports. The reports will cover student progress through terms 1 and 2 and will be released on the last day of this Term. We will be holding conferences at the beginning of Term 3 for you to discuss the report with classroom teachers and to set goals for the remainder of the year. The date for these conferences will be confirmed at a later time.
Colleges are beginning to visit the school to market themselves to the Year 8 Students. EBIS has already had visits from Rongotai, Wellington East Girls, and St. Catherine's College. On Friday 9th June all the Year 8 Boys will be visiting Rongotai College for a tour, and there is an open evening the following Tuesday 13th June from 6pm to 8pm for families to view the school.
For the Year 8 Girls, Wellington East Girls College are holding an open day on Thursday 15th June with tours starting at 3pm and 6pm.
The WRISSA Hockey tournaments were held in Week 5. Unfortunately the boys tournament was cancelled due to a clash with the paid union meeting, however the girls performed really well in their tournament and came 4th overall. During pool play the girls achieved two wins and two draws, then lost to Raroa Intermediate in the playoff for 3rd/4th.
Finally, we would like to encourage all students to have drink bottles at school. This will mean that students are leaving class less to get drinks and interrupting their learning. Also, with the amount of sickness currently circulating through schools in the eastern suburbs this should help to keep down possible transmission from using shared water fountains.
Please enjoy family time over the upcoming King’s Birthday weekend.

School Feedback
Due to the Paid Union Meeting last week the planned opportunity for members of the school community to come and meet with Helena Barwick did not eventuate. Here are the details for the rescheduling.
Each year, school boards are responsible for monitoring the performance of the school including the quality of school leadership. Usually, the board will ask an external appraiser to assist with this.
This year, the Board has asked Helena Barwick, who has a lot of experience in supporting schools to perform, to gather some feedback on how EBIS is doing.
As well as talking with Howard, reviewing data on student achievement and learning from staff and students about changes at EBIS, Helena is keen to hear from members of our school community about their experience of the school.
Helena is keen to hear from anyone who would like to tell her about their, or their child’s, experience at EBIS in 2022 and 2023.
Helena will be available to meet with anyone who would like to talk in the Library after school on Wednesday 14 June.

Netball
Over the weekend the Year 8A netball team played in The King’s Birthday Tournament in the Hutt. They displayed the school values and had a great time. They lost 3 games and won 1. Some very tough teams they went up against but also held their heads high and played their best. Thanks to past student Luke who came to umpire for the team.
