Term 3

Week 8

8 September 2023

Kia ora EBIS whanau.

We are now close to the end of the term and we a looking at several very busy weeks.

Week 8 has been book week. Daily activities were organised ranging from book artwork, to candid photos of students reading in strange places, to the Friday come dressed as a book character. One of the activities was an inter class quiz competition, where two students represented their class and competed for the Literacy Challenge Shield. Congratulations to Room 4 for winning the shield for 2023, This will hang underneath the Rawhiti shield in the hall until next years’ challenge.

Also this week we held Wig Wednesday in aid of the Child Cancer Foundation. We held this a week early because of all the other events happening in week 9. This event made the afternoon assembly very bright and colourful with different styled and coloured wigs scattered around the hall. At the time of writing this the school has raised $837 for this charity. Donations can still be made through the Wig Wednesday website.

The WRISSA Rugby Tournament was held on Wednesday 30 August. The EBIS mixed team dominated the entire tournament. Not only did they come away with the tournament winners’ trophy, but only conceded two tries the entire tournament, both in the final.

Week 9 is Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. This will be another very busy week with daily activities and a Hangi on Wednesday 13th September. You should have already received some information about this and what vegetables students should bring to school on Monday next week. That afternoon Toa Ākauwaiata will be performing at Miramar Central School as a part of their Wiki o Te Reo activities.

The competition to design a t-shirt for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori has already happened and the winner voted for by the EBIS staff. Congratulations to Marina from room 4. Students who have purchased one of these limited edition t-shirts may wear them as a part of their uniform in week 9.

Just to make the week even busier, on Wednesday 13/9, our DP, Paul Chalk, will be running an information evening about the upcoming Keeping Ourselves Safe Unit. This unit covers some confronting topics including personal and social safety, as well as reporting abuse. If you have any questions about the content of the unit this evening is your chance to get the answers before the unit is taught in all classes.

Week 10 has the last WRISSA tournament for the term, Basketball. The boys tournament will be held on Tuesday and the girls tournament on Wednesday. Good luck to both teams.

In class, students have been working on speeches to inform, entertain, or persuade. Class finalists will be chosen by the end of week 8. Week 9 will see the Team Semi-finals with the School Finals to be held during the school assembly on the Wednesday of week 10.

Finally, some students will have the chance to visit the Science Roadshow on the last 2 days of term. This will be an interesting and fun activity for those who attend.
