Term 2

Week 5

26 May 2023

Kia ora koutou katoa

Once again we have some busy weeks coming up.

Students have now completed the first cycle in their new SPEC classes. The timetable changes mean that students will have attended all SPEC areas within the first half of the year and will have a second round of each in Terms 3 and 4. We have made this change so that students have the benefit of the information taught in Wellbeing and foods, and also so that they don't have the situation where they might have a SPEC area in Term 1 of Year 7, and then not return to that area until Term 4 of Year 8.

Although we had to cancel the school cross country last week because of the weather, trials were held within the school last Friday. Those students who qualified attended the WRISSA cross country this Wednesday 17th May. Good luck to those competing.

From Monday to Wednesday of week 4 students attended 2 scheduled blocks taking part in Te Ahi Ora programme. The purpose of this programme was to promote creativity, wellbeing and self confidence of students through physical activity. The programme also has a goal to promote community engagement, so the tutors also provided a chance for families to view a demonstration, and then to learn and participate with live fire.

Pink shirt day to stand against bullying was held on Friday 19th May.

Finally, there has been a large amount of student interest in the Tough Guy / Tough Girl Challenge. This took place on Thursday 25th May at Camp Wainui.

School Feedback

Each year, school boards are responsible for monitoring the performance of the school including the quality of school leadership. Usually, the board will ask an external appraiser to assist with this.

This year, the Board has asked Helena Barwick, who has a lot of experience in supporting schools to perform, to gather some feedback on how EBIS is doing.

As well as talking with Howard, reviewing data on student achievement and learning from staff and students about changes at EBIS, Helena is keen to hear from members of our school community about their experience of the school.

Helena is keen to hear from anyone who would like to tell her about their, or their student’s, experience at EBIS in 2022 and 2023.

Helena will be available to meet with anyone who would like to talk in the Library after school on Wednesday 31st May. If this time doesn’t work for you, or you would like to give some feedback another way, Helena is happy for you to make contact by email helena@barwick.co.nz or to give her a call on 021 186 1122 over the next couple of weeks.

Cross Country

Congratulations to our Cross Country team who had a great day at Harcourt Park.

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT HOSTING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

Open up the world for your family and be a part of enriching and transforming lives.

Now that global travel has opened up we are receiving many applications from students wishing to start at Wellington High School in term one 2023. These students will come for one term through to a year.

We are now looking for new homestay families who are inclusive, caring, supportive and willing to share their home and Kiwi life with a student. Visiting students want to experience day to day life with a New Zealand family and to feel a part of the family.

The 2023 homestay fee will be $320 per week.

After hosting more than 50 students a homestay Mum summarised saying

"Hosting students opened up the world for our family. I can't think of the word to really describe how enriching the whole experience is."
