Week 10
29 September 2024
Kia ora, EBIS Whānau
That’s term three done and dusted.
One aspect that has been exciting this term has been Akoranga starting up again. Students have positively engaged with a wide range of activities that push them to try new experiences and expand their horizons through curiosity.
In term 4 there will be a second cycle of Akoranga with students experiencing different options than in term 3.
As a part of our inquiry, students have been learning about The Arts Around the World. This is all building towards an extravaganza showcase of their work in term 4.
It was great to see the Year 8 hoodies arrive on the last day of term. These can be worn as uniform right throughout term 4. Just a note from the uniform provider. Please wash these in cold water and don’t put them through the drier. This will keep them looking great for as long as possible.
To finish the term we also have a write up from the school board.

You may have heard a rumour that 2024 is a significant year for Evans Bay Intermediate School? The Board can confirm this year is the school's 60th anniversary! Celebrations are being planned to coincide with an Extravaganza event next term, scheduled for Thursday 5th December. More information will be circulated closer to the date, but we look forward to celebrating the learning of our Akonga as well as the six decades EBIS has been a place of a learning.
With term 3 drawing to a close, the Board are aware that this term has had its share of challenges, as well as awesome moments. We want to tautoko the messages from the teaching team regarding behaviour connected to Social media our community has experienced. We encourage all whānau to take time over the break, if you have not already, to consider the impacts social media is having on this age group and review the support tool provided in the 17/9/24 email from the school.
From the Board, we wish you a refreshing and safe school holidays and look forward to working together to support our EBIS community in the last term of 2024.

On Wednesday week 9 we were meant to go to the WRISSA girl flag tournament, but unfortunately we didn’t due to the bad weather. We prepared for the tournament by training twice a week. We had strongly formatted training to help us improve each training so we could be ready. Luckily Vic and Jesse managed to get the girls in a school tournament to verse the other girls that trialed for the team. Thank you to Vic and Jesse for making this work for the flag team.

Boys A
Last Wednesday, the boys volleyball A team had a blast down at the Akautangi sport centre, placing 6th in the WRISSA volleyball tournament. For the last few weeks we have been practising our skills with the coaching of Miss McAuley, Mr Soldini, Jesse and
Vic. On the day we played strong!, winning three out of the six games we played.
Special thanks to Mr Hart, Mr Young, Miss McAuley, Mr Soldini, Jesse, Vic and the three volleyball teams for making this possible.
-Oly and Ivory.
Boys B
On Wednesday week 10, EBIS entered a volleyball tournament at the Akautangi Sports Center for WRISSA. All WRISSA teams have been working on skills since the start of the term, improving their capability to work as a team and learning the fundamentals of volleyball. Week 10 came and all the volleyball WRISSA teams were ready. The first game was played at 9: 45 by the Boys A team, and the girls started shortly after. We cheered and supported them before it was our game at 10:15. Sadly we lost our first few games but gave us motivation to improve and win. At 1: 45 we had a game against SWIS, And we finally got our well deserved win.

Girls
On Wednesday, week 10, EBIS took a girls Volleyball team to Akautangi to participate in the WRISSA Volleyball tournament.
Throughout Term 3, Miss McAuley and Mr Soldini took us through lunchtime practices in the hall along with the boys A and B Team. The girls improved by practising different techniques and preparing themselves for the tournament. At the final tournament, the girls used all their skill, strength and integrity for the 13th and 14th playoff, they showed teamwork and hope in every game played and ended up coming 14th.
Huge thanks to Mr Soldini, Miss McAuley, Vic, Jesse, Mr Hart, Mr Young and lastly our talented girls.
