Week 10
30 June 2023
Kia ora katoa
As we come to the end of Term 2 it’s time we look back at and celebrate the many successes that our students have achieved during the term.
The first schoolwide Market Day was a very busy, but fun, process. It was fantastic to see all the parents, families, and even ex-students that turned up to support this event. After all the proceeds were counted and divided students have raised approximately $2800 for their chosen charities of the SPCA, the Cancer Society, and Ukraine support.
Maths madness was held for the first time, including teams from 5 different schools. Our EBIS teams swept the top three places in the Year 7/8 competition.
Students have completed a complete rotation of all the SPEC areas and have learned a variety of different skills. Whether it is making keychains, baking corn bread, drawing and painting, meditation techniques, or simple experiments, all students have found success in multiple ways through these programmes.
Students have competed in the WRISSA tournaments for football, cross country, hockey, and rugby league. Congratulations to all that have competed, in particular the rugby league team who brought back the tournament trophy.
In after school sports students have represented the school well, constantly displaying our school values and achieving a variety of success. In particular we would like to mention the Rimu basketball team that has finished the term with a perfect winning record (9-0).
Culturally, students have participated in workshops run by Te Ahi Ora and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Wthi Te Ahi ora students learned many of the movements of fire dancing, and those that attended the evening workshop even got the chance to try it with live fire.
The RNZB sessions gave the students a small taste and students who choose to have the opportunity to continue this in Term 3 with regular extension sessions.
Korean lessons started in Term 2 and will continue into Term 3, with classes to extend to students who have shown an aptitude for learning the language.
Looking forward to next term there will be Parent Teacher Interviews on the first Tuesday and Wednesday (18/19 July). This is a chance for you to discuss the report that will go out on the last day of term. You will receive an email at the same time as the reports go out that will explain how to book a time. At the same time as the interviews please get your student to show you the SPEC rooms so they can explain what they have been working on during the first half of the year and to meet the Specialist teachers.
We wish you all a restful and safe holiday break.
Kia kite koutou a te wāhanga tuatoru o te tau kura.
