Term 1

Week 9

24 March 2023

Kia ora whanau.

As we are rushing towards the end of this term there are still several events still coming in the next two weeks.

On Wednesday 22/3 we held our first full school athletics in 2 years. Although the day started chilly and overcast, it was brilliant to see the students coming in their team colours and filling the stands. Coloured tutus with either fairy wings or leis seemed to be the most common costume.

Congratulations to every student who attempted an event that they haven’t before, All students for their enthusiasm and participation, and to all the students who placed in events. Students who placed and met the WRISSA qualifying standards may be selected to go to the WRISSA Athletics on Friday 31/3 to compete against the other Wellington and Hutt intermediate schools. Because there are restrictions on the number of athletes that schools can take to the event, not all students who qualified will be able to attend. Good luck to all those students who are selected.

School photos are scheduled for Tuseday 28/3. Please make sure that students are coming to school with the correct and tidy uniform. Access to view and order photos will be available early next term.

On the topic of uniform, we are starting to see more students trying to wear non uniform items at school. The main issues are hoodies, mufti jerseys, and jewelry like rings, bangles, and necklaces. While students are allowed to wear taonga like pounamu or bone carvings under their uniform shirts, all the other items are not part of the uniform and we ask you to make sure that they are kept at home. If students are unable to wear correct uniform because of major circumstances, we ask that you send a signed and dated note to school with them that students will have to carry with them and produce for any teacher that asks.

Students have been practising for the start of year Kapa Haka Team Competition. This is where each team has to perform the school song and another item chosen by the classroom teachers. This competition will be decided within the next two weeks and the winners shield will be hung under the team shield in the hall for the remainder of 2023.

Hopefully you all have a settled lead up to the school holidays which starts on Good Friday.
