Week 4
11 August 2023
Tēnā koutou katoa.
As we near the middle of Term 3, we continue to recognise students that have found success through individual or group efforts.
EBIS hosted the WRISSA Volleyball tournament at Akau Tangi Sports centre on the 2nd of August. 15 intermediate schools from around the Wellington district came to compete against each other. The EBIS boys team found success by reaching the quarter finals of the competition, and while the Girls team did not get into the knockout portion of the tournament, they were praised by other teams for their sportsmanship and the way that they competed during all their matches.
Toa Ākauwaiata have performed 3 times as part of the Destination KRL Matariki ki Ākau Tangi event. The final performance was held on 10th August where they performed a set with and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori Ngā Mokopuna. The students involved have enjoyed their experience and the opportunity to see what other local schools have to present.
In the assembly on 9th August the school was presented with several awards from World Vision for EBIS’ participation in the World Vision Challenge. FIrstly EBIS was acknowledged for 20 years of supporting World vision and their fundraising efforts. EBIS was also recognised with a Platinum award for being in the top 2% of funds raised per student by a school, and also being the highest school fundraiser in the lower North Island for 2023. We are proud of all students who participated as they raised nearly $13,000 for this worthy charity.
On the same day we held a schoolwide cultural day. This was very successful with many students sharing their cultural foods, dress, dance and other activities. Thank you to all the staff, parents and students involved in organising this, and Suzanne Trye in particular for coordinating the entire day.
We are getting to the point of every year where Year 6s and their families are able to visit the school. Year 6 students have the chance to visit with their as school groups on Friday 11th August and Monday 14th August, ant then with their families on the evening of Monday 21st August. School leaders and other students may be asked if they are available to help during these times. You will be contacted for permission if your child is asked to support the Open Evening.
The is a schoolwide non uniform day coming up on the 18th August. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation for this as the purpose of this day is to fundraise for some community groups involving our students that have qualified for national competitions.
Also coming up in the next few weeks are the WRISSA Netball and Rugby tournaments. Teams for these have/are being selected and practising for the competitions.
Finally, there are sample sizes for the Year 8 hoodies in the office. If you are unsure of sizing, please get your child to come and try those on before ordering through Kindo.
