You can build a course in Brightspace in three places: a sandbox, a master course, and a term course shell.
Sandbox. Faculty have three (3) Sandbox courses in Brightspace to test features or to develop a course. Faculty enroll peers and Demo Students to facilitate impersonation. Request more sandboxes here.
Master Course. A Master is a pre-built course coded to auto-copy into the term course shell 4 weeks before the course starts. Each master should have a course lead or two who keep the master current. Request one here.
Term Course Shell. Faculty can also build a course in the upcoming term shell. Do NOT, however, edit the previous term course for a future term. Go to the future term course and import your desired content before editing.
Easily managed by one or more faculty.
The Instructor Sandbox role can manage enrollment to facilitate collaboration and impersonate a Demo Student.
All instructor roles can copy all or parts of it into another course.
The sandbox course must be copied into the term shell for an adjunct.
Master courses auto-copy into term shells 4 weeks before the start of the term (the timeline is a college decision).
Multiple sections will have identical content.
Adjuncts benefit from getting a pre-built complete course.
The master course MUST be managed and kept current. It needs a course lead.
