Instructional designers (IDs) support and promote teaching and learning effectiveness by advancing best practices in all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. IDs collaborate with faculty to create high-quality instruction aligned to learning goals by drawing upon our expertise in learning principles/theories, educational research, instructional technology, and evidence-based practices. IDs focus on how people learn to create engaging, accessible, and effective learning solutions for online, hybrid, blended, and traditional classes.
SMEs focus on WHAT is taught,
while IDs focus on HOW it is taught.

My background does not follow a straight line. I have worked as a tool designer, quality coordinator, engineering design instructor, training manager, instructor (three colleges), academic dean, provost, and CAO. I have developed numerous courses at the associate, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels, as well as performance improvement courses for employers. I have been a peer evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission, successfully completed three reaccreditations, managed the ISO9001 quality process for an organization, and taught many continuous improvement courses.
My Master's is in Educational Change and Technology Innovation (Walden University), and my Ph.D. is in Instructional Design for Online Learning (Capella University). My thesis focused on the skills subject-matter experts need to become successful educators, and my dissertation focused on the skills managers need to lead distance learning. Teaching engineering design and quality bred a passion for competency-based education.
I have been with CSS since 2017. My joy is working with faculty to develop engaging courses.
