Dates
First Day of School after the Holiday Break: The first day of school after the Holiday Break will be Monday, January 5th, 2026. It will be Day 2 of the cycle.
Indoor Sneakers: Kindly be certain to send a pair of indoor sneakers with your child on Monday, January 5th. The sneakers must be Velcro unless your child can tie their own shoelaces.
Change of Clothes: Kindly also be sure to pack a full change of clothes, including a shirt, pants, undergarments and socks in a large Ziploc bag in your child's backpack on Monday, January 6th. Please also remember to label all of their belongings.
Book Exchange: Our next book exchange will be on Monday, January 5th, Day 2. Please have your child return their Library book(s) by or on that date, if they have not already done so. Merci!
Home and School Association Meeting: Sherwood School’s next Home and School Association meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s _____. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend.
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice from home that relates to our integrated theme of the Holidays for Show and Share. Kindly help your child prepare to talk to the class about their toy in French. This week, please help them introduce themselves and identify their toy. The following sentence structure may be helpful to them: Bonjour! Je m’appelle _____. Voici ma/mon _____. Merci! Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.
Notes
Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Alayna and our first assistant will be Anthony this week.
Theme: This week, our theme will be Winter Clothing. We will also touch on New Year's Eve.
Winter Clothing: Kindly ensure that your child is dressed warmly for outdoor recess every day, including snow pants, winter boots, a winter coat, a neck warmer/scarf, a hat and waterproof mittens/gloves. Recess will be much more enjoyable for them if they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Please remember to label all of your child's winter clothing as well. Merci!
Extra Hat and Mittens/Gloves: Kindly double-check that your child has an extra hat and an extra pair of waterproof mittens/gloves in their backpack each day. Please remember to label them too! Merci!
Early Closure Dismissal Routine: With the arrival of winter weather, kindly review your child's early closure dismissal routine with them. Please write me a note in your child's communication duo-tang to request a new Early Closure Form, if their routine has changed since September. In the event of an early closure, either myself or my substitute teacher will follow the routine indicated on your child's Early Closure Form and will not be able to check for email messages or take telephone calls.
School Occupational Therapist Weekly Message
Kindly see Sherwood School's Occupational Therapist, Katherine McKee-Blanche's, weekly message below. Please read and watch both as they will be very helpful to your child, you and me.
Dear Kindergarten parents!
The next few weeks, the videos are all about Co-Regulation! Co-regulation is what happens when a caregiver (parent/grandparent) regulates a child's behaviour and feelings through such things as soothing words, adjusting their tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and gestures. Please watch the first two videos this week!
Co-Regulation (Part 1) Co-regulation Part 1
Co-Regulation (Part 2) Co-regulation Part 2
As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.
