I would like to extend warm wishes for the Holiday season to all students and families. I look forward to settling back into routine upon our return to school in the New Year!
Dates
Sherwood School will be celebrating the upcoming Holiday season in a fun way each day this week. All students are invited to participate in each spirit day!
Monday - Day 3 - Music
Merry Monday: Students are invited to dress in holiday attire.
HO! HO! HO! Day: Students are also invited to say Ho! Ho! Ho! instead of French greetings like Bonjour! or Au revoir!
Holiday Kindergarten Classroom Rotation: Our class will be participating in a Holiday Kindergarten Classroom Rotation from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. Students from each class will be grouped together and will play in Holiday themed free choice centres in one classroom per day.
Tuesday - Day 4 - Classroom Support and Physical Education
Festive Twinning Day: Kindergarten students are invited to dress in red.
Christmas Candy Grams: Madame Norris' Grade 5A students will be fundraising for Sherwood School's Christmas Families Program. They will be selling Christmas candy grams from Monday, December 8th until Tuesday, December 16th for a $1.00 each. The candy grams will be delivered to students on Thursday, December 18th, which will coincide with Thankful Thursday during our school-wide spirit week. A candy gram consists of a candy cane with a note attached.
If your child wishes to send a candy gram to another student, please send a note, indicating their name and class, along with $1.00, in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it too.
Wednesday - Day 5 - Music and Second Step
Wacky Holiday Wednesday: Students are invited to wear Holiday hair accessories, hats and socks.
Absence: Madame Danielle Duplessis will be replacing me for the day as I will be absent. Unfortunately, I will not able to check for email messages or take telephone calls on that date.
Thursday - Day 6 - Classroom Support and Physical Education
Thankful Thursday: Our class will be making cards for our French Language Monitor, Mme Marie, to express our gratitude for her help in our classroom.
Politeness: Students are also invited to be mindful to be polite in French by saying S'il te plait! and Merci! to each other too!
Candy Gram Delivery: Candy grams will be delivered to students on this date to coincide with Thankful Thursday.
Library Book Return Deadline: Kindly have your child return all of their Library books by this date. Merci beaucoup!
Friday - Day 1 - Learning Buddies and Music
Onesie or Pajama Day: Students are invited to wear a onesie or pajamas and bring a stuffed toy.
Movie and Popcorn: We will be watching a short French movie and enjoying some popcorn.
Fa La La La Friday: Our class will be attending a sing along in the auxiliary gymnasium at 12:15 p.m.
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice from home that relates to our integrated theme of the Holidays for Show and Share. Kindly help your child prepare to talk to the class about their toy in French. This week, please help them introduce themselves and identify their toy. The following sentence structure may be helpful to them: Bonjour! Je m’appelle _____. Voici ma/mon _____. Merci! Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.
Holiday Break: Kindly note that this date will be the last day of school before the Holiday Break. The first day of school in the New Year will be Monday, January 5th, 2026. It will be Day 2 of the cycle.
Notes:
Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Winter and our first assistant will be Xavier this week.
Theme: Our theme will continue to be Family Holiday Celebrations this week and next. We will touch on Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
Winter Clothing: Kindly ensure that your child is dressed warmly for outdoor recess every day, including snow pants, winter boots, a winter coat, a neck warmer/scarf, a hat and waterproof mittens/gloves. Recess will be much more enjoyable for them if they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Please remember to label all of your child's winter clothing as well. Merci!
Extra Hat and Mittens/Gloves: Kindly double-check that your child has an extra hat and an extra pair of waterproof mittens/gloves in their backpack each day. Please remember to label them too! Merci!
Indoor Sneakers: I will be sending your child's indoor sneakers home with them on Friday, December 19th for you to check the fit and wear. Kindly remember to send a pair back with them Monday, January 5th. The sneakers must be Velcro unless your child can tie their own shoelaces.
