Earth Week: Sherwood School will be celebrating Earth Week in a fun and informative way again each day this week. This year's Earth Day theme is Conscious Consumption. Canadians are encouraged to consume less, but better, in order to reduce our impact on the planet. Earth Day was officially be acknowledged on Wednesday, April 22nd.
Great Kindness Challenge: Kindly send your child's "Great Sherwood School Kindness Challenge" sheet back to school, in their zippered bag, on Monday, April 27th. Merci!
Easter Seals PEI Assembly: Our class will be attending Sherwood School's annual Easter Seals PEI assembly on Monday, April 27th at 9:25 a.m. This year's ambassador, Rowan MacDonald, will be presented with a cheque for the total amount of our school's fundraisers for Easter Seals PEI. His motto is “There is ability in every disability. We are no less. We are unstoppable."
Book Exchange: Our next book exchange will be on Wednesday, April 29th, Day 2. Please have your child return their Library book(s) by or on Tuesday, April 28th, Day 1. Merci!
Sherwood School Yard Clean Up: Students are invited to bring a reusable glove from home on Tuesday, April 28th to wear while our class collects litter on Sherwood School's yard as part the school's Earth Week celebration.
Sherwood Showcase Assembly: Our class will be attending Sherwood School's annual Sherwood Showcase, performed by the Grade 6 classes, on Wednesday, April 29th at 12:15 p.m.
Rosedale Park: Our class will be going to Rosedale Park from 12:45 - 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th as a reward for doing 10 acts of kindness, as a class, in the "Great Sherwood School Kindness Challenge".
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice from home for Show and Share on Thursday, April 30th. Kindly assist your child to introduce themselves, identify their toy and describe its colours in French. The following sentence structure may be helpful to them:

Professional Learning Day: Kindly note that Sherwood School will be closed on Friday, May 1st as it will be a Professional Learning Day for teachers.
Photograph of Spring Activity: Kindly email me one photograph of your child participating in an outdoor spring activity by Monday, May 4th. Your child will use the photograph in an integrated spring activities themed Show and Share on Friday, May 8th. Merci beaucoup!

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Avery and our first assistant will be Max this week.
Theme: Our theme will Insects this week and next.
Assessment and Evaluation: I will be working with each student individually to assess their progress in fine motor, early numeracy and early literacy development this week. Our daily routine will be adjusted slightly to accommodate this activity.
Field Trip to the Confederation Centre of the Arts: Our class will be going to the Confederation Center of the Arts to see Charlottetown Rural High School's production of The Wizard of Oz on Wednesday, May 13th. We will be travelling by school bus, departing from the school at 9:00 a.m. and returning by 12:30 p.m. Students will be eating their lunch upon our return. Kindly remember to pack your child's water bottle and full change of clothes (in a large Ziploc bag) in their backpack on that date. It is sure to be a fun morning for all!
Please complete and return the permission form that was sent home in your child's zippered bag on Tuesday, April 21st. Merci beaucoup!
End-of-Year Field Trips
Victoria Park: Our class will be going to Victoria Park on Wednesday, June 17th. We will be travelling by school bus, departing from the school at 9:00 a.m. and returning by 1:30 p.m. Kindly ensure your child is dressed comfortably for the weather, including a sun hat, sun glasses and a spring coat. Please also apply unscented sunscreen on them at home. Kindly also pack your child's water bottle, lunch kit, towel and full change of clothes (in a large Ziploc bag) in their backpack. We will be eating a picnic lunch at the Connaught Square Park. It is sure to be a fun day for all!
Charlottetown Fire Department and City Cinema: Our class will be going to the Charlottetown Fire Department and City Cinema on Tuesday, June 23rd. We will be travelling by school bus, departing from the school at 9:00 a.m. and returning by 1:45 p.m.

Payment for Field Trips: Payment for your child's field trips can be made online at Sherwood HotLunches or by cash until Wednesday, May 13th and Tuesday, June 23rd respectfully. If paying by cash, kindly send exact change in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it and the purpose of the payment. The fee for your child to go to the Confederation Centre of the Arts will be $5.00 and our End-of-Year Activities $20.00.
Peanut/Nut Free School: Kindly ensure that your child’s snacks and lunch are peanut/nut free.
Punctuality: Sherwood School's first morning bell rings at 8:25 a.m., signalling the beginning of our Homeroom period. Kindly ensure that your child arrive at that time each day. If they arrive after the second morning bell, which rings at 8:40 a.m. and signals the end of our Homeroom period, they will be marked as Late. Thank you for supporting your child's regular attendance and punctuality as they are key to their academic success.
Kindly make punctuality a priority.
Reminder! Rain or Shine Play: Students will be playing outside at recess, rain or shine, except in heavy rain or when the temperature reach a windchill of -20°. Kindly ensure that your child is dressed appropriately to play in all weather conditions every day.
Spring Coat: Kindly have your child wear a spring coat every day so that they are warm and dry while playing outside at recess.
Splash Pants/Rain Boots: Kindly have your child wear splash pants and rain boots every day, until the ground dries up, so that they are warm and dry while playing on the schoolyard at recess.
Water Bottle: Kindly remember to send a filled water bottle with your child each day. Merci beaucoup!
