Christmas Candy Grams: Madame Norris' Grade 5A students will be fundraising for Sherwood School's Christmas Families Program. They will be selling Christmas candy grams from Monday, December 8th until Friday, December 12th for a $1.00 each. The candy grams will be delivered to students on Thursday, December 18th, which will coincide with Thankful Thursday during our school-wide spirit week. A candy gram consists of a candy cane with a note attached.
Kindly note the following important information about buying Candy Grams:
Please complete the note that will be sent home in your child’s zippered bag and return it, along with $1.00, in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it, if you wish to send your child a candy gram.
If your child wishes to send a candy gram to another student, please send a note, indicating their name and class, along with $1.00, in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it too.
Absence: Madame Danielle Duplessis will be replacing me for the day on Wednesday, December 10th as I will be absent. Unfortunately, I will not able to check for email messages or take telephone calls on that date.
First Term Report Card: Your child’s First Term Report Card was sent home with them on Thursday, December 4th. Kindly complete and return the slip enclosed with the report card, indicating that you received it, by Thursday, December 11th. Merci!
Book Exchange: Our next book exchange will be on Friday, December 12th, Day 2. Please have your child return their Library book(s) by or on Thursday, December 11th, Day 1. Merci!
Skating: Our class will be going skating on Friday, December 12th from 9:00 - 9:55 a.m. at the Cody Banks Arena, as part of our Physical Education curriculum. We will be leaving the school at 8:45 a.m. and returning by 10:10 a.m. Kindly write me a note in your child's communication duo tang by Monday, December 8th, if your child will need to borrow skates and/or a helmet from the school. Please complete and return the permission form that will be sent home in your child's zippered bag in the coming days. Merci beaucoup!
Parents are invited to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our grade level. Please note that helmets must be worn on the ice by everyone.
Hot Chocolate/Cold Apple Cider Party: I will provide hot chocolate/cold apple cider and a snack that is individually wrapped in its original packaging and labelled as Peanut/Nut Free on Friday, December 12th. It will consist of bananas, mandarin oranges and Rice Krispies Squares.
Show and Share: All students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice from home that relates to our integrated theme of the Holidays for Show and Share on Friday, December 12th. Kindly help your child prepare to talk to the class about their toy in French. This week, please help them introduce themselves and identify their toy. The following sentence structure may be helpful to them: Bonjour! Je m’appelle _____. Voici ma/mon _____. Merci! Please remember to not send toys with your child on days other than Show and Share.
Notes:
Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:
Leader/Assistant: Our first leader of the day will be Avery and our first assistant will be Jackson this week.
Theme: Our theme will continue to be Family Holiday Celebrations this week and next. We will touch on Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
Bedtime Routine: With two upcoming 5-day weeks of school before the Holiday Break, your child will benefit from a regular bedtime routine each evening. Being well rested will help prepare them to fully engage and participate in our busy school day together the next morning.
Early Closure Dismissal Routine: With the arrival of winter weather, kindly review your child's early closure dismissal routine with them. Please write me a note in your child's communication duo-tang to request a new Early Closure Form, if their routine has changed since September. In the event of an early closure, either myself or my substitute teacher will follow the routine indicated on your child's Early Closure Form and will not be able to check for email messages or take telephone calls.
Head Lice: Kindly check your child's hair for head lice regularly. Thank you for taking a proactive approach towards reducing the spread at home and at school.
Illness: Kindly assess your child's overall health each morning, before sending them to school. If they are sick, please keep them at home to rest and recuperate. In doing so, you are reducing the spread of illness amongst all members of our classroom community.
Water Bottle: Kindly remember to send a filled water bottle with your child each day. Merci beaucoup!
Winter Clothing: Kindly ensure that your child is dressed warmly for outdoor recess every day, including snow pants, winter boots, a winter coat, a neck warmer/scarf, a hat and mittens/gloves. Recess will be much more enjoyable for them if they are dressed appropriately for the weather. Please remember to label all of your child's winter clothing as well. Merci!
Independence: Kindly have your child practice getting dressed in their winter clothing at home so that they can get dressed for outdoor recesses and afternoon dismissal as easily and independently as possible at school. Merci beaucoup!
Throughout our Winter Clothing theme, we will be talking about the following order to get dressed in winter clothing:
snow pants
boots
coat
neck warmer/scarf
hat
mittens/gloves
Extra Hat and Mittens/Gloves: Kindly double-check that your child has an extra hat and an extra pair of mittens/gloves in their backpack each day. Please remember to label them too! Merci!
