St John's Rugby Festival - 17 - 21 April
St. John’s Easter Rugby Festival – A Celebration of Growth, Teamwork & Triumph
From Wednesday, 16 April, 18 of our enthusiastic boys proudly represented Clifton at the prestigious St. John’s Easter Rugby Festival in Johannesburg and what an unforgettable experience it was!
The boys played four thrilling matches, each one an opportunity to showcase their skill, sportsmanship, and teamwork. We kicked off the festival with great energy on Thursday, securing hard-fought victories against St. Stithians (19–14) and St. Benedict’s (19–12). The boys displayed determination, resilience, and a growing understanding of the game that made us proud.
On Friday, 18 April, we took a break from the field to explore Gold Reef City, a fun-filled day that allowed the boys to bond, relax, and enjoy themselves before returning to a focused training session later that evening. The dedication and commitment they showed were truly commendable.
Saturday’s game against The Ridge was another highlight a fiercely competitive match that ended in a well-deserved 21–14 victory. On Sunday, we enjoyed some quality downtime with our players and their families, creating lasting memories and deepening the connection between school, parents, and teammates.
The final game on Monday, 21 April against St. Peter’s was a nail-biter. Despite running out of time, the boys delivered an outstanding performance, narrowly losing 12–10. The match was a testament to their perseverance and growth throughout the festival.
Throughout the tour, the boys carried themselves with dignity and respect, both on and off the field. Their attitude, manners, and spirit were exemplary, and they truly embodied the values of our school.
The St. John’s Easter Rugby Festival was more than just a sporting event it was a journey of growth, friendship, and unforgettable experiences. We return not only with victories but with stronger bonds, valuable lessons, and a deeper love for the game.
