Grade 4 Showcase - 25 June
Bringing Stories to Life: The Journey of the Grade 4 Showcase
The Grade 4 Showcase is the result of a joyful and purposeful journey into the world of performance. This term, our young performers were introduced to the fundamentals of stagecraft and performance dynamics, laying a strong foundation for their understanding of the theatre space. Emphasis was placed on collaborative work, effective storytelling, and making thoughtful choices on stage—skills that would soon become vital as they embarked on a larger creative project.
After exploring these core concepts, the children were given the opportunity to audition for roles in the Grade 4 play—a theatrical adaptation of two African folk tales. These stories were brought to life through a performance-driven lens, allowing each child to contribute to a vibrant, energetic retelling that blends cultural narrative with dramatic flair.
Throughout the rehearsal process, the boys and girls developed and consistently demonstrated a range of performance skills. These included ensemble work, active listening, active viewership, and supportive performance techniques. Every session provided a chance for the children to grow, not just as performers but as a team, learning to hold space for themselves with courage and conviction while also remaining deeply supportive of their peers.
Perhaps the most meaningful growth has been in their approach to the stage—with a sense of respect, dedication, and presence. They have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and a growing sense of ownership, learning to focus their energy, listen deeply, and bring their best selves to the work.
It has been a privilege to guide and collaborate with this group of eager young artists. Watching them grow in skill, confidence, and character has been a rewarding experience, and I am incredibly proud of the young performers they are becoming. The Grade 4 Showcase is not just a celebration of theatre—it is a celebration of their journey.
