Grade 7 - Termly Reflection

It is difficult to believe that we have reached the halfway point in the year with our Grade 7s. The maturity and personal growth that have been so evident have been heartening, and have ensured that the Grade has made the most of the term's opportunities. While the most recent focus has been on our exams, the Grade 7s have had a full schedule this term.

The investment and drive towards ensuring personal bests have been notable. The study skills workshop, presented by all of the Grade 7 teachers at the onset of the term, ensured that the children were reminded of effective study methods, with reminders of these strategies continuing throughout the term. There have also been intentional moments to remind ourselves of the 'Cliftonness' of Clifton. An after-exams Outdoor Learning Day focused on 'Sun Fun'. Our 'Back to Basics' day was a highlight. This involved a bit of studying, with guest speakers Fiona MacCrimmon and our own Mr Fleischack bringing the importance (and responsibility) of sustainability, an introductory experience in orienteering, time dedicated to working on Out and About badges, and a scavenger hunt of sorts to map trees of significance... a busy, fulfilling day! An additional 'bonus' for the term has been our Design Thinking process, where real-world issues are identified, thoroughly examined and evaluated, and then solved, with solutions drawn from Nature and biomimicry, particularly.

A Social Emotional Learning workshop took place after the exams. How gratifying to be able to discuss the concepts of Guided Reflection, Emotional Literacy and Stress Management with the children.

Rugby and hockey have dominated a great deal of focus, and it has been heartening to see the leadership roles that the children have shouldered, by way of example to their peers, or by words of encouragement. High school processes have largely concluded, ensuring a sense of calm has returned. There is now a palpable focus on Term 3... and the Botswana Trip. Stay tuned!
