Grade 6 and 7 Outdoor Learning Day - 18 June

With Winter’s clutches slowly relinquishing, our ‘Sun Fun’ theme for the day seemed quite apt! Using a stick and two stones, the children learnt how to make a quick (fairly accurate) compass… you’ll have to ask them to show you how. Using this improvised compass, an orienteering task of some description was the next challenge, and the children did themselves proud.

Task 2 was to create a solar clock (a sundial). While this proved more challenging and time-consuming (please excuse puns), we may have to revisit and complete this task at a later time (last one, I promise).

We have been working on a Design Thinking Challenge aimed at solving an environmental problem on campus (soil erosion, stream maintenance, alien eradication, etc), with a biomimicry influence, and this was very much part of our Outdoor Learning Day, too. What a gift!
