Trip to Nyala Pans - 14 - 16 May

Excitement buzzed in the air as our Grade 4 girls and boys and their teachers set off for their much-anticipated adventure at Nyala Pans, and it turns out the teachers may have been just as thrilled as the kids! With tents to explore, friendly camp counsellors to meet, and the thrill of white-water rafting awaiting, everyone knew they were in for something special.

From the moment they arrived, the group was greeted with warm smiles and the breathtaking beauty of the valley. Nyala Pans lived up to every expectation. Glorious weather set the stage for an action-packed few days, and even the evening chill couldn’t slow the fun. Sunset soccer matches and night walks kept spirits high well into the evenings.

Mealtimes were another highlight, especially when dessert made a surprise appearance at lunch! The children dove into their activities with enthusiasm, learning orienteering skills that came in handy when they were tasked with gathering ingredients for dinner. Their reward? A batch of mouth-watering potjies they prepared themselves, much to the delight of the entire camp.

But the real showstopper? Water and mud day and the river conditions were perfect for rafting. For those craving an extra thrill, the speedy “ghekos” (inflatable boards) offered a wild ride down the rapids. And let’s not forget the 5-meter “courage jump” into the river, complete with shrieks of laughter, joy, and just a touch of nerves.

Throughout the trip, the Grade 4s shone brightly. Many conquered personal fears, made new friends, and looked out for one another, ensuring everyone had an unforgettable time.

A huge thank you to Nyala Pans for a magical experience full of fun, learning, and memories that will last a lifetime.
