The Philippines is one of the countries that are prone to natural disasters or calamities. Being surrounded by bodies of water due to its archipelagic formation, the country is exposed to hydro-meteorological hazards such as destructive typhoons and monsoon rains which cause landslides and flashfloods. Apart from these hazards, the archipelago is also prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and severe droughts, and is also susceptible to manmade/human-induced disasters. At present, the Philippines is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which have already caused the deaths of millions all over the globe. More than two years have passed, and yet, a serious public health crisis in the country remains.
The BulSU Disaster Risk Reduction and Management ( DRRM ) Plan for 2022 identified the following potential hazards/threats on our campus: 1) Earthquakes, 2) Flashfloods, 3) Climate Change 4) Fires, 5) Chemical or hazardous material spills, 6) Intruder on campus or in community, 7) Medical emergencies, 8) Bombing/bomb threat and 9) Public health crisis.
