EVALUATION OF WEBINAR SERIES FOR STUDENTS -PART 1
For the higher education sector, continuity of learning is the main goal during the interruptions brought by Covid-19; but keeping students safe is a primary concern. It was mentioned in the Rationale of CHED Guidelines on the Implementation of Flexible delivery of Student Affairs and Services during Covid-19 Pandemic (2020) that not all localities in the country may be allowed to have schools fully operate face-to-face or in-person classes. For instance, in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), and General Community Quarantine (GCQ), face-to-face classes are suspended. 1 In areas under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), face-to-face classes are limited.2 Mass gatherings in higher education institutions (HEIs) under MGCQ are also allowed provided the “HEIs shall follow the existing guidelines under MGCQ.”3 Since Academic Year (AY) 2020-2021 is fast approaching, the major objective of health officials and the national government is to prevent HEIs become epicenters of COVID-19 transmission. In line with risk-based public health standards of the Department of Health (DOH), CHED is espousing the implementation of flexible learning by all public and private HEIs to ensure continuity of learning amidst the pandemic and community quarantine guidelines. Academic preparations for flexible learning are underway, however, preparations for the operation of student affairs and services (SAS) have not been given more attention than necessary and yet, SAS plays a crucial role in providing equitable learning opportunities for all students wherever they are or whatever their economic situation may be. Therefore, as we shift to flexible learning, there shall also be a shift to flexible delivery of SAS. Any HEI shall ensure that students should be provided online channels, orientation and webinars not only on flexible learning but also topics on mental health and psycho-social well-being of students among others.
As a response to the CHED’s proposed guidelines on the implementation of flexible delivery of student affairs and services especially during this pandemic, Bulacan State University’s (BulSU’s) Offices of the President (OP) and of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) with one of its units, Student Policy and Program Development Office (SPPDO) in coordination with the Offices of the Executive Vice President (OEVP) with its main and external campuses’ Offices of the Chancellors, of the Vice Chancellors for Student Affairs, and of the Campus Directors for Student Welfare and Development, proposes the conduct of a series of tick-talk for students. This tick-talk series will serve as a follow-up activity for the new and continuing students who now are experiencing the new normal set-up of education especially during this first semester of the academic year 2020-2021. Hence, this tick-talk series reintroduces the University’s initiatives and efforts as part of its Affirmative Action Program particularly for new and continuing students.
Four topics are considered for discussions.
A. Continuous Educational Services (“Abot-kamay sa Pag-asa ng Bayan”)
B. Relentless Protection against Any Form of Harassment (“BulSU Cares”)
C. Incessant Services for Specific Students (“Kalinga, Aruga, at Malasakit ng Nagkakaisang Tinig”)
D. Determined Mental Health Programs and Services (“BulSUans, Tara, Usap Pa Rin Tayo...”)
The theme of this tick-talk series for BulSU students is “Getting Ready...Getting Steady! Reaching out to the BulSUans during the New Normal Learning Set-up”
