To find the Big Dipper look for these points in the sky. This is how to find the constellation.
Step 1: Only at night can it be seen. 10 p.m. is the best time.
Step 2: Look in the northern sky to find it. If it is fall or winter it is lower in the sky near the horizon, but during spring and summer, it is higher in the sky.
Step 3: Look for stars in the sky shaped like a pot. The pot shape is an irregular rectangle with three stars making a crooked handle.
The North Star can be found by lining up the two stars on the edge of the “dipper.” See the photo on the left.
The North Star is often used for navigation because it points to “true north.” It is the brightest star in the Little Dipper and the end of its handle.
