Dear Galileo,
What is it like to have your head in the stars? As we live on Earth and float through space, we are surrounded by an infinite number of stars and planets. Found in our solar system, which planet would you say is your favorite? Personally, out of all the planets in the Milky Way, Pluto, the dwarf planet, is my favorite. Although it is not classified as a planet anymore, I still prefer that underappreciated rock over the others. What I find fascinating about many galaxies is the variations of color. The celestial bodies have an array of colors that shine brightly through outer-space. Beautiful layers of light and gas swarm around freely like an orchestra on opening night.
If you were around today, what would surprise you most about our further discoveries in astronomy? What would surprise you most about our advances in technology? Today, anyone can hold a complex computer right in their hand and take it anywhere they want. These computers allow us to view what stars or planets are above us at any given moment during the day. Our modern world is very advanced, but we have a long way to go.
Today, many people believe in astrology and star signs. The idea that the month you were born in determines your personality traits and your physical appearance. All unique ideas, but they are unsupported by science. What do you think about these ideas? Do you think they are credible? I sure don’t. They sound like fun ideas, but there isn’t really any hardcore evidence to prove them. Based on your birthday, you would be an Aquarius. Not sure what that means about the kind of person you are, but it can’t be hard to figure out.
Mr. Galilei, although you are not around anymore, your ideas have been very beneficial to us. Your thoughts and inventions have helped us learn, study, and create. From figuring out the phases of Venus, to using the telescope to determine how large craters are on the moon, thank you for contributing your brain to us. It holds marvelous treasures and exciting mysteries. I appreciate your time. Write back!
Sincerely, Natalie Drake
