The Peaceful Minecraft Mobs Ranked

by Natalie Drake

Did you know that the game of Minecraft is the most popular game in the world? On November 18th, 2011, the game was released to the public. Since then, the game has grown quite popular and has had many new additions. Minecraft is a game full of infinite possibilities. Players can mine, build, craft new objects, explore, and complete challenges. An essential part of any survival world in Minecraft is the mobs. A Minecraft mob is a living being in the game. Mobs have expanded in number since the game was created, and with every new update there seems to be more and more. Without further ado, here are all of the peaceful Minecraft mobs found in the overworld ranked from worst to best.

(This will not include any new mobs in the upcoming update. Unfortunately, axolotls were not included.)

Worst:

Squid

Squids in Minecraft are fishy idiots. They are the dumbest mob in the game. They only provide inc sacs and those are only useful for crafting dye or a book and quill. What makes squids the dumbest mob is the fact that they don’t know how to swim. From my own experience, squids are the most likely to kill themselves by jumping out of the water and onto land. Squids in Minecraft are stupid.

Snow Golems and Bats

These guys are very cute, but do not provide a purpose. For Snow Golems, wherever they go, they bring trails of snow with them. Snow Golems do not even spawn naturally in the game because they serve no purpose. Bats in the game are found in caves. If in the dark, they can sometimes make you jump. They are peaceful and don’t attack you, but again, there is no point to them being in the game. As cute as the bats and the Golems are, the game could do without them.

Wandering Traders/Llamas

No matter where you run, or where you hide, a wandering trader will hunt you down and not leave you alone. He always comes accompanied by two llamas and horrible trades. The only thing wandering traders are really useful for are the leads he is holding that are attached to the llamas. The only way to get these leads is to kill the wandering trader. Seems easy enough until his llamas start spitting at you.

Rabbit

These little guys are cute and all, but not very helpful. They cannot be tamed and they are pretty fast. Try to get close to one and it will hop away very quickly. If you manage to kill one, there is no guarantee there will be a reward. Sometimes they drop food, rabbit hide, or a rabbit's foot. Sometimes, rabbits don’t drop anything and then you just kill an innocent creature for no reason.

Fish (Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish, Pufferfish)

Fish can really spice things up in a small pond or river. These guys (except for pufferfish) offer food for players, or bait for ocelots and cats. Although fish can be useful, they don’t offer much help with hunger. Not the worst mob, but not really close to being the best mob either.

Turtle

Turtles in Minecraft are very cute. The very small turtles are definitely one of the cutest mobs but turtles are not very helpful in the game. Killing a turtle can give you a scute and these can be used to craft a turtle shell. Turtle shells can be worn by players on their heads to help them swim and breathe underwater. Pretty helpful but not the best.

Parrot

These guys are very colorful and can be tamed as pets. I find it really cute when they sit on your shoulder. However, they are mocking birds so they mock the mobs they’ve heard. Take a parrot mining and you can’t tell if there is really a zombie behind you, or if it is just your bird making a zombie noise. Confusing little creatures.

Fox

These little guys are one of the cutest mobs in the game. They come in orange or white and they can spawn with different loots in their mouths. Foxes can spawn with emeralds, totems of undying, rabbit’s foot, rabbit hide, egg, wheat, leather, or a feather in their mouth. Foxes will also kill other mobs offering free food for players. Downside to foxes, they cannot be tamed and are quite skittish. Breed two adult foxes and you get a baby that trusts you, but will not be your pet and will find adult foxes to stay with.

Bees

Bees in minecraft are super cute. They pollinate and help spread the growth of flowers, and they make honey and honeycombs. Bees will follow you if you hold a flower, but if you strike a bee or collect their honey, they turn viscous and get all the other bees around you to attack you too. However, watching a Minecraft bee pollinate is one of the most adorable things you will see in the game.

Cats/Ocelots

What was once one mob, is now two separate mobs. These shy creatures can be tamed and become your pets. They are loyal companions who can follow players around and help scare off creepers. However, they don’t really serve any other purpose. Cats are cute, but not the best mob to ever exist.

Horses and Donkeys

Horses and Donkeys allow players to ride them and use them for faster modes of transportation. Donkeys also allow players to store some extra items for on the go travel. Horses and donkeys can only be rideable though with a saddle. Unfortunately, saddles cannot be crafted so it makes the uses of horses and donkeys a little harder.

Wolves/Dogs

Give a wolf a bone, and you have a faithful companion. Dogs look the same as wolves, but they have colored collars that can be changed with dye. Dogs follow you around or sit and stay when told, and if you’re under attack from a hostile mob, dogs will risk their own lives to save yours. Wild wolves will also kill sheep and leave their loot laying around for players to find and use as they please. These companions are good to have around.

Best:

Cows, Pigs, chickens, and Sheep

These mobs are the best. They are the most common mobs and they offer great food sources. They are some of the oldest mobs in the game and they are helpful for many things. Feathers from chickens can be used for arrows, leather from cows can be used for armor, and wool from sheep can be used for beds. These mobs are the best.

Honorable Mentions:

Mooshrooms. These guys are my favorite because they are cows and mushrooms all in one. They are cute.

Hopefully, your favorite mob was mentioned at some point in this list. Minecraft is a classic game and it will be popular for many more years to come.
