Stop-motion animation is a form of animation where multiple photos are taken of objects, like dolls and clay figures, in certain positions. Then, each photo is put into a sequential order and played back so the objects appear to be moving on their own. One of the earliest films that use stop-motion animation is Le théâtre de Bob (Bob's Electric Theatre), which was released in April 1906. The film was made with dolls. Since then, many stop-motion characters have been created, like Gumby, Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and much more.
In my opinion, stop-motion animation is awesome. I've seen many television specials that use stop-motion animation, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. These specials are seen during the holiday season. I also like Gumby and Shaun the Sheep.
I did stop-motion animation myself once. I was animating scenes using Lego characters and props using a stop-motion animation computer program. It took about one month, and I made several animations that lasted between 30 seconds and two minutes. Overall, it was a cool experience for me.
Stop-motion animation has a lot of redeeming qualities that cel animation and computer animation don’t have. I certainly enjoy watching shows that use this type of animation. Perhaps I'll try doing stop-motion animation again in the future. You can create stop-motion animations, too. All you need is a digital camera, some objects to animate, editing software, and you're all set.
